Audition Information:
Here are the characters for the play version of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, which adapts Kate DiCamillo's novel into a stage production. The majority of the roles will play multiple characters.
- Note to actors: When you are preparing your monologues, think about the element of storytelling. I am looking for actors that can really tell a story and not just with their voices but with their movements as well.
Edward Tulane / The Musician:
A proud, porcelain rabbit who is initially vain and indifferent to the people who care for him. Through his many adventures, he learns the true meaning of love and loss.
Abilene:
A young girl who lovingly cares for Edward at the beginning of the story. She shares a deep bond with the rabbit, treating him as a member of the family.
Traveler/Pellegrina:
The traveler is a narrator that helps the storyline flow. Pellegrina is Abilene’s grandmother and brings wisdom. This character needs to be good at storytelling.

What to Prepare:
This will be an in-person audition. If you are unable to attend auditions in person please contact Mrs. Urbanciz at nichela.urbanciz@district196.org to make arrangements for a video audition. This is only an option for illness, travel, or other circumstances.
What to bring:
Please come with the conflict and audition form completed. When completing the conflict form, mark ANY possible conflicts, even if you are unsure if you will be gone, it is better to have it marked. Be prepared for some movement and possible cold call reading.
Monologue:
Prepare a monologue that is between 60 to 90 seconds in length. Choose a piece that highlights your acting ability and storytelling ability. All the characters in this show need to be good storytellers. Practice movement with your monologue, this means using hand gestures and purposeful movement. After performing your monologue you will not be excused, if time allows there will be some scene work and movement asked of you.
Casting:
There will not be any callbacks for this show. You will be informed about casting on Thursday, December 19th. If you are cast you will need to come to pick up your script and memorize over the winter break.
